LG 'World's Thinnest' LCD TVs Are Just 6mm Thick

I'm not entirely sure that these sets can lay claim an actual record, but LCD's 1080p, 6mm-deep, sub-20lb, 42-inch and 47-inch TVs do look awfully thin.

Unfortunately LG's ultra-thin new sets—which boast 8ms response time, LG's TruMotion 120hz video smoothing technology and a space-saving LGS (light guide sheet) backlighting technology—appear to be, at least for now, trade show gimmicks. That means no price, no model name, no date of availability. And without seeing, in person, whether this LGS backlighting provides a comparable image to a regular CCFL backlight, it difficult to guess if we'll even see any of the new technology in production sets. But that's fine—for now, we gawk.

World's First High Definition, Net-Enabled Etch A Sketch for Giants

Using the front screen of 52-inch rear-projection Mitsubishi TV as their drawing board, here's a fully-working Etch A Sketch that can hopefully be controlled by doodlers over the Internet some day soon.

Besides the backlit TV, makers Fatman and Circuit Girls also use $9 Harbor Freight drills for the twisty knobs, screen-door pulleys and tent poles to control the creation of the illustrations from the backside, some aluminum powder used in the normal-sized Etch A Sketch as "ink" and a golf tee as a stylus. I wish I understood her directions on how to actually put the giant toy together, but I guess I'll just have to wait for its net-enabling to come into fruition.

Toshiba Dynabook SS-RX2:Say Hello to 512GB SSD

Despite Asus' earlier announcement, Toshiba is the first manufacturer to bring a laptop with a 512GB SSD to market. The 12.1" screened laptop also boasts a 12-hour battery in a svelte body. We want. Badly.
The Toshiba Dynabook SS-RX2, anchored with a Core 2 Duo proc, is less than 25mm thick and weighs less than 2.5 pounds. Disappointingly, it's Japan-only for now, but we all hope it'll make its way Stateside eventually. Get ready to cough up the green when it does; it costs over $4,400 USD at the moment due to the prohibitively high (around $1,500) cost of that huge SSD. But this baby, packed with Windows 7, might just be our dream ultraportable.
